Rawalpindi 34°C

Karachi 34°C

The recent rain spell lowered heat intensity in Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi and the recorded temperature in Karachi and Rawalpindi was 34°C while Islamabad had a much bearable 35°C. Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted a pre-monsoon spell in the last week of June 2025, and citizens may find some relief. Because the summers in Pakistan are becoming inhospitable each passing year. And everyone knows the reason: climate change.

Climate Change Increase the Number of Hottest Cities in the World

Climate advocates and environmentalists predict mass migration from the mostly heated cities in Pakistan and other countries in the coming decades. Because it is hard for humans to survive in high temperature while facing other problems such as water shortage, food scarcity and electricity load shedding.

The high temperature in Pakistan affects not only human health but also poses a danger to crops, animals, birds, and groundwater resources, and is likely to create food and water insecurity. 40°C to 46°C is the new normal, creating hot places in Pakistan. The mercury also peaked at 50°C in Jaccobabad in 2024, making it one of the hottest places on Earth. The intense spell of extreme heat in the hot places in Pakistan has affected the daily life of citizens, making it difficult to perform outdoor activities.

Survival Challenge in Hottest Cities in Pakistan

How to survive during the hot summer days in Pakistan? Well, stay indoors, drink more water, and eat hydrating foods. However, the high humidity and 40°C make it hard for humans to cool down by sweating even indoors. Environmentalist Aidan Charron expects outdoor life will become impossible by the end of the century. Therefore, to lower the Earth’s temperature for survival, it is inevitable to protect the environment. Minimizing carbon emissions, shifting to renewable resources, and planting more trees are some of the many solutions for climate change. Read here about Pakistan’s notable achievement of 25% solar electricity production.

Major Cities Too Hot to Live In

Pakistan’s Jacobabad and Turbat are one of the top 5 hottest places on earth including Death Valley California that has recorded 57°C temperature, Basra in Iraq with 53°C and the Lut Desert in Iran with 70°C at some places. Life in these places is hard to be explained, yet it intensifies the need to increase the efforts for a sustainable future.

What Aidan Charron Says About the Future?

High Humidity Don’t Let Humans Cool Down

The global temperature rise will make many places in the world inhabitable in the coming decades. As reported by Yahoo News, Environmental Scientist Aidan Charron has stated that the signs of extreme heat are already visible, accompanied by high humidity. The human body can tolerate 50°C when the humidity is low, but during high humidity, even 35°C becomes intolerable because the body can not cool down after 6 hours.

The human body cools down by the natural process of sweating, which, when it evaporates, takes away the heat and lowers body temperature. However, when the humidity is high, the sweat does not evaporate, and therefore, even 26°C will feel like 28°C. As a result, the risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion increases in hot places in Pakistan, India, Dubai, and other parts of Southeast Asia.

Solar Electricity is the largest source of power in Pakistan, surpassing natural gas, nuclear energy, thermal, and water power. By reaching 25% solar power production, Pakistan has proved to the world its vital potential for the renewable energy industry. According to the data revealed by the Energy Think Tank Ember, Pakistan has produced 25% utility-supplied electricity in 2025 so far through solar power. And therefore, the country is ranked as one of the 18 countries that produce 25% of their monthly electricity from solar. Here’s a quick look on the bar chart sourced from Reuters:

Import of Solar Components in Pakistan

China is the biggest exporter of solar components in Pakistan and the ratio has increased from 2% in 2022 to 7% in 2025. The year-on-year solar power production and the import of solar compnents has increased significantly. Ember stated that Pakistan imported 8,500 MW solar components from Jan 2024 to April 2024, however in the same 4-month period of 2025, Pakistan imported 10,000 MW solar components.

Thanks to the planet sun, the country receives abundant sunlight year-round. Also, due to the soaring electricity prices and climate change, more Pakistanis are turning to solar electricity as a clean, cost-effective alternative. From growing government initiatives to financing options from private banks, the solar panel industry in Pakistan is experiencing a significant boom. Here’s everything you need to know.

Free Solar Panels for 100,000 Consumers in Punjab

Most Pakistanis want to buy solar panels due to the expensive electricity, high bills, load shedding and unbearable summer. Therefore, the Punjab Government in Pakistan has launched Free Solar Panel Scheme 2025 to provide solar energy to domestic consumers. The eligibility criterion includes using 0-200 units of electricity in June 2024.

The CM Punjab free solar panels program will help people reach renewable energy and minimize the financial load due to higher electricity bills. You can register in this scheme to get free solar panels by visiting the portal: Chief Minister Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme Portal.

Benefits of Solar Electricity in Pakistan

Pakistan is ideally positioned for solar power. With an average of 8–9 hours of sunlight per day, most parts of the country receive over 300 sunny days annually. This makes solar energy a highly reliable and sustainable solution for residential, commercial, and agricultural use.

Key Benefits of Solar Energy:

Reduced electricity bills

Low maintenance costs

Long-term savings

Energy independence

Eco-friendly and emissions-free

New Tax on Solar Panels in Pakistan 2025

Despite growing demand, Pakistan still relies heavily on imported solar panels and inverters, mainly from China and Germany. However, a recent government decision under the budget 2025-26 to impose an 18% sales tax on imported solar panels has sparked concern among consumers and industry professionals. This tax will increase the overall cost of installing solar systems and will make affordability a challenge for middle-income households.

It will also slow down import activity in some regions, however, the government intends to promote the local solar industry by putting a tax on imported solar panels in Pakistan. Owing to the greater demand for solar systems and rising costs, some companies and banks have launched installment plans for solar systems.

Rising Electricity Prices in Pakistan & The Urgent Need for Alternatives

Pakistan’s electricity prices have increased dramatically in recent years, with frequent power outages and load-shedding making life difficult. Consumers are now exploring solar panels to escape these high bills and energy instability. The switch to solar helps reduce dependency on the national grid, avoids fluctuating tariffs, and offers access to uninterrupted power.

Solar Energy and Climate Change Effects on Pakistan

With the global focus on sustainability, solar energy helps Pakistan cut its carbon footprint. It’s a key player in combating climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting renewable resources. By going solar, households and businesses in Pakistan can play a crucial role in creating a cleaner future.

The solar panel market in Pakistan is expanding rapidly. From residential rooftops to large-scale solar farms, investments are pouring in. The government of Punjab has partnered with solar companies to distribute panels at subsidized rates, especially in rural and agricultural areas. Meanwhile, urban adoption is growing fast in cities like Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Faisalabad.

Allied Bank Solar Financing – Go Solar Save Energy

In a promising move, Allied Bank has launched a solar energy financing scheme, allowing customers to buy solar panel systems on easy monthly installments. This step is a major relief for those who can’t afford upfront payments. The benefits of Allied Solar Energy System include flexible tenure, competitive markup rates, and direct partnership with certified solar providers. This initiative opens the door for more widespread adoption across Pakistan’s working class and salaried individuals. You can take a loan from Rs. 2 Lac to Rs 3 Lac to buy Solar Panels in Pakistan and pay the installments in 7 years. Get more details from the Allied Bank Website.

Need to Shift To Solar Energy in Pakistan

Solar energy is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. Pakistan has the vision to turn 60% of their electricity to solar by 2030. With expensive electricity, abundant sunshine, and climate urgency, the country is on the right track to fully embrace solar solutions in the future. Whether you’re a homeowner, business owner, or farmer, investing in solar panels today will protect your finances and the environment tomorrow. Stay tuned to 360 Buzzz for updates, reviews, and expert tips on clean energy in Pakistan.

This blog will help you learn causes and effects of Water Crisis in Pakistan. Water is the lifeblood of any nation, essential not only for human survival but also for economic stability and national security. For Pakistan, a country whose economy is heavily reliant on agriculture, water scarcity is no longer just an environmental issue, it has become a matter of national survival. With per capita water availability dropping sharply, growing tensions with India over shared rivers, and inadequate water management at home, Pakistan stands on the brink of a full-blown water crisis that could trigger internal unrest and regional instability.

Water Needs and Water Crisis in Pakistan

Pakistan is among the most water-stressed countries in the world. According to the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), the country may run dry by 2025 if urgent measures are not taken. In 1951, per capita water availability was around 5,000 cubic meters; today, it has fallen below 1,000 cubic meters, approaching the threshold of absolute water scarcity.

This is alarming for a country where more than 90% of freshwater is used in agriculture, which employs over 38% of the labor force and contributes around 19% to the GDP. Without adequate water, the entire economic structure of Pakistan is at risk of collapse.

Why Water Crisis in Pakistan is a National Security Issue?

Water scarcity affects every aspect of a nation’s security:

Food Security: Pakistan’s ability to grow enough food for its rapidly growing population (currently over 240 million) is under direct threat. Crops like wheat, rice, and sugarcane depend heavily on irrigation from the Indus River system. Water shortages can lead to food inflation, hunger, and social unrest.

Energy Security: A significant portion of Pakistan’s electricity comes from hydroelectric power. Lower water levels reduce power generation capacity, contributing to frequent blackouts and energy crises.

Public Health: Water shortages lead to poor sanitation, the spread of diseases, and lack of access to clean drinking water, particularly in rural areas.

Internal Conflicts: Water disputes between provinces such as between Sindh and Punjab have already surfaced. If left unresolved, these could escalate into serious internal conflicts, challenging national unity.

Regional Tensions: Perhaps the most sensitive aspect of Pakistan’s water crisis is its transboundary water conflict with India, governed by the Indus Waters Treaty.

The Indus Waters Treaty: A Fragile Peace

Signed in 1960 with the help of the World Bank, the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) is considered one of the most successful water-sharing agreements in the world. It allocates control over six rivers in the Indus Basin:

India controls the eastern rivers: Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej.

Pakistan controls the western rivers: Indus, Jhelum, and Chenab.

While the treaty has withstood multiple wars and periods of hostility, recent years have seen growing tension. India, accusing Pakistan of sponsoring cross-border terrorism, has hinted at revisiting the treaty or utilizing its “full share” of water—actions that Pakistan views as threats to its water security.

Projects like Baglihar Dam and Kishanganga Hydroelectric Project by India have raised alarms in Pakistan, which fears reduced river flows that would devastate its agricultural output. Although India insists these projects are within treaty bounds, Pakistan has repeatedly taken the disputes to international arbitration.

In 2019, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that “not a single drop of water will be allowed to flow into Pakistan,” further escalating fears. In 2023, India issued a notice to Pakistan for renegotiating parts of the treaty, signaling increasing fragility in this decades-old agreement.
Causes of Water Crisis in Pakistan

While external threats from India are real, much of Pakistan’s water crisis is rooted in poor domestic management:

Lack of storage: Pakistan can store only 30 days of water, far below the recommended 120 days for water-stressed countries.

Wastage: An estimated 60% of water is lost due to outdated irrigation systems and leakage.

Groundwater depletion: Excessive extraction without regulation has severely depleted aquifers, especially in Punjab and Balochistan.

Urban overuse and pollution: Major cities like Karachi and Lahore suffer from water theft, contamination, and inequitable distribution.

There is also a glaring absence of public awareness and political will to prioritize water conservation and infrastructure development.

Solution for Water Shortage Problem in Pakistan

Addressing the water crisis requires a multi-pronged, long-term approach:

Diplomatic Resilience: Pakistan must engage India through international forums to protect its rights under the Indus Waters Treaty, while also seeking regional cooperation on climate resilience.

Infrastructure Investment: Large-scale water storage projects like the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams must be expedited.

Modern Irrigation: Techniques like drip irrigation and laser leveling can significantly reduce wastage.

Public Awareness: Nationwide campaigns promoting water conservation at individual and community levels are essential.

Legislative Action: A national water policy must be implemented and enforced uniformly across provinces.

Why Mainstream & Social Media Don’t Talk About Water Crisis in Pakistan?

Despite the severity of the water crisis in Pakistan, mainstream media has largely failed to give it the attention it deserves. Television channels and news outlets remain overwhelmingly focused on political debates and power struggles, while the looming threat of water scarcity gets sidelined. Media has a crucial role to play, not just in informing the public but in shaping national discourse. By producing more programs, documentaries, and discussions on water issues, the media can raise awareness, educate citizens, and apply pressure on policymakers to prioritize long-term water solutions. Without strong media advocacy, the urgency of this crisis will continue to be ignored.

Water scarcity is no longer just an environmental issue for Pakistan, it is a national security emergency. The consequences of inaction will not only affect agriculture and health but also threaten internal stability and regional peace. As climate change accelerates and political tensions rise, the time to act is now. Ensuring water security is not just about survival, it’s about sovereignty, peace, and the future of Pakistan.
There are over 13000 glaciers, making the country the third pole after Antarctic and Arctic regions. These majestic ice formations are tourist attractions and a source of fresh water, irrigation, and hydropower. However, the effects of climate change on Glaciers in Pakistan have raised concerns about the country’s environment and sustainability.

As we mentioned above, there are approximately 13000 Glaciers in Pakistan, making the country one of the highest resources of icy giants. The top 10 glaciers in Pakistan include some of the breathtaking snowy peaks in the world. Let’s discuss them in detail.

Siachen Glacier

Siachen is the largest glacier in Pakistan spread to 76 kilometers, the longest in the Karakoram. It is interesting that Siachen is also known as the highest battlefield in the world at the altitide of 20,000 feet. Two nulear powers Pakistan and India claim Siachen and have their military bases over there. India controls the galcier and the Saltoro Ridge while Pakistan controls the west of Saltoro Ridge and has military camps on the sub-glacier west of Saltoro Ridge. Outside the polar region, Siachin is the second largest glacier in the world and a strategically important region as it offers direct connection to Azad Jammu Kashmir and China.

Batura Glacier

Batura Glacier is the fourth longest glacier in Pakistan. Located in Gilgit Baltistan, it has a wonderful peak of 58 kilometers.

Baltoro Glacier

The Baltoro Glacier is included in the list of top 10 galciers in Pakistan. It is the 5th longest glacier in the world. You will be amazed that this 63-kilometer-long glacier range holds K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, and Gasherbrum II. All of these are among the world’s most famous 8,000-meter peaks.

Biafo Glacier

Located in Gilgit Baltistan, Biafo Glacier is one of the important glaciers in Pakistan. This snowy beauty is the world’s third longest glacier outside the polar region. The 63 kilometer long frosty peaks are the second largest glacier in Pakistan.

Passu Glacier

Hisper Glacier

Batura Glacier

It is 57 kilometers long and is located in the Hunza Valley of Pakistan. This scenic beauty is

Abruzzi Glacier

It is 63 kilometers long and located in Skardu. From here, you can enjoy the views of K2.

Godwin Austen Glacier

It is located in the Karakoram Range.

Gondogorro Glacier

It is located in the Karakoram Range and is 12 kilometers long.

Effects of Climate Change on Glaciers

Although Pakistan contributes less than 1% of carbon emissions to the world, the repercussions on the country’s natural resources are enormous. It can be understood from the fact that the glaciers in Pakistan are melting rapidly. One such example is the Passu Glacier, located in Gilgit-Baltistan, the northern region of Pakistan. The data has revealed that the Passu Glacier has reduced 10% in size during the past four decades from 1977 to 2014.

Glacier Outburst in Attabad Lake June 2025

Climate Change is real and its showing up itself in an alarming way. One such example is the recent glacier outburst in the Attabad Lake which is one of the hottest tourist spot in Pakistan. Intense heat and early moonsoon has caused a glacier melt that caused a flood in the Attabad Lake and was enough to scare the tourists. The lake itself is a creation of a landsliding in the Hunza River in 2010, amazed that amazed the world for turning a natural disaster into an adventurer’s must-visit destination. If you are planning to visit Gilgit for summer vacation, it is advised to take all the advisory about the weather and NDMA alerts to skip any unusual circumstances.

3000 Glacial Lakes in Pakistan

Climate change has also resulted in the glacial lakes, such as Attabad Lake in Hunza Valley, Gilgit Baltistan. The rising temperature due to carbon emissions has caused the glaciers to melt down, thus overflowing rivers and oceans and creating lakes. There are over 3000 glacial lakes in Gilgit Baltistan and KPK province alone. Many of them can burst anytime, thus damaging the nearby community. UNDP has declared 33 lakes are the most denagerous and can have drastic impact on over 7 million people living downside in KPK and Gilgit Baltistan.

Why Are Glaciers in Pakistan Important?

Glaciers are not just ice-capped beauties and Instagrammable spots, they are a source of life. Millions of people in northern Pakistan use the glacial meltwater for drinking purposes, to grow their crops, and to survive. Moreover, the glacial water is rich in nutrients and minerals.

When it flows down to the rivers, oceans, and lakes, it multiplies the growth of marine algae like Phytoplankton. As a result, the marine creations of plants and animals are supported by the meltwater of glaciers in Pakistan.

Glaciers also provide freshwater for agricultural purposes in the area, thus, the millions of inhabitants perform their living activities and maintain a lifecycle.

Pakistan has abundant natural resources which can generate billion dollar revenue. However, the lack of government support to private industries have caused decades of delay in the utilization of these landmarks. Tell us what do you think about the glaciers of Pakistan.
An unbelievable hailstorm in Islamabad on Wednesday, 16 April, has amazed everyone. Accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, the intense hail damaged the vehicles’ windscreen, glass doors, and windows of city buildings such as Faisal Mosque.

Thunderstorms Born Hails & Hailstorm in Islamabad

If you are a nature enthusiast and interested in knowing how hail is formed and what a hailstorm is. Here’s an easy brief to develop your understanding of this amazing event that mesmerized the capital, Islamabad, of Pakistan.

A hailstorm is a storm of iceballs, or hail, that fall from the sky. Their formation is an interesting process to know, as hails are formed within thunderstorms. During a thunderstorm, when water droplets are taken to the higher clouds where the temperature is colder, these droplets freeze and turn into hail.

With more upward movements of air, these ice particles collide with more water droplets and grow in size. And then comes a time when they become too heavy to be moved by air, and as a result, they fall to the ground.

Hailstorms Can Cause Billion-Dollar Damage – U.S. Reports

International nature journals, such as Climate and Atmospheric Science, have released reports in 2024—cited by The Washington Post—indicating that while hailstorms may become less frequent, they are expected to produce larger hailstones, approximately four centimeters in diameter (about the size of a golf ball).

Atmospheric analysts predict these hailstones will be more damaging due to their increased volume, force, and speed. Studies have shown that large hailstorms are a consequence of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, and their impact is expected to become even more severe in the future.
